Coronavirus super spreader released from London hospital – New York Post

A British coronavirus “super spreader” who may have infected nearly a dozen other people has been released from the hospital after recovering from the deadly illness, according to reports.

Steve Walsh, 53, was discharged Wednesday from a London hospital after he was quarantined for the deadly virus, which he became infected with during his travels to Singapore, the Sun reported.

“I’m happy to be home and feeling well,” Walsh said in a statement.

He was given two tests for the virus, now known officially as COVID-19, and both came back negative, Sky News reported.

Keith Willett with the UK’s National Health Service confirmed that Walsh was no longer contagious.

“Mr. Walsh’s symptoms were mild and he is no longer contagious and poses no risk to the public. He is keen to return to his normal life and spend time with his family,” Willett said, according to the Sun.

The father of two was believed to have contracted the virus at Singapore’s Grand Hyatt hotel during a conference hosted by the gas analysis company Servomex in January.

Shortly after the conference, the traveling businessman unwittingly spread the virus as he traveled from Singapore to France to Switzerland and back to England.

Among those infected were five other UK citizens who stayed with Walsh at a ski resort in the French Alps, including a 9-year-old boy. Another man who was also at the resort tested positive for the virus after returning to the Spanish island of Mallorca.

“Whilst I have fully recovered, my thoughts are with others who have contracted coronavirus,” he said in a statement.

Experts previously warned that highly contagious coronavirus carriers known as “super spreaders” could make the new outbreak more unpredictable and tougher to contain.

Some patients might infect one or two people with the virus, while a “super spreader” could spread the illness to dozens, the Telegraph reported.

The coronavirus has so far killed more than 1,100 people and infected over 45,000, with the vast majority of cases in mainland China.
