Rainbow Six Siege new Operators: Oryx and Iana’s test server release date – Polygon

After a week of leaks and teases, Ubisoft Montreal confirmed the two newest operators coming to Rainbow Six Siege today at The Six Invitational esports championship in Quebec. They are Iana, an Attacker, and Oryx, a Defender. They’ll be the 53rd and 54th Operators in Siege’s lineup and players may get their hands on them (on test servers) beginning Feb. 17.

Iana, according to this video, is Dutch and her Gemini gadget holographic decoys; players have compared her to an Attacker version of Alibi, a Siege Defender, but there’s a key difference: Alibi projects a stationary hologram of herself; Iana projects a moving hologram, but she must stay still. But mobile lifelike hologram can bait opponents into tossing their explosives, and it can expose traps without triggering them.

Oryx, a Jordanian operator, uses his mass and power to bust through soft barriers without any tools. Oryx seems to be a counterpart of the Attackers’ well known Sledge, who carries a tactical breaching hammer that allows him to go through unreinforced surfaces in the same way. The difference is Oryx can do so a lot more quickly, with his dash, although he will take damage if he goes through a wall.

Oryx’s battering-ram attack can knock anyone to the ground, including shield-bearing Operators. He may also jump up to an open hatch, grab its ledge, peek around at his surroundings, and then either pull himself up or drop down. The drawback to his speed, mobility, and Rebar Bash ability is that he’s very loud.

Ubisoft Montreal developers at this afternoon’s panel for the new season also said a remake of Oregon, one of the game’s most played maps, is also on the way. The basement has been expanded and now opens into a freezer section, and a new hallway allows players to bypass the meeting room area, plus many other changes. Also, barricade destruction will be made more consistent and less obstructive to players opening breaches or shooting through them. The next update will also bring a redesign to the UI, making it cleaner and more informative.

The Feb. 17 availability date is on the game’s public test servers. Operation Void Edge, the code name for Year 5, Season 1, does not yet have a launch date. When it does, buyers of Siege’s next Season Pass will get the new operators one week before they are available to everyone else.
